One of the surest ways I know of to have a successful life is to help others. A person much smarter than I (Zig Ziglar) once said, “If you want to be successful, help other people get what they want, and you will get what you want.”
Of course, first you have to decide what success is for you. To me it is helping other people become successful. I was a secondary school teacher for many years before entering Corporate America. Some of my students found school difficult. But they accepted their challenges and understood that they learned diffierently. My joy was in watching the AHA! moments– when the light finally dawned, the concept understood for the first time.
I have made and lost a lot of money in my lifetime. But the money does not bring joy. It allows you to do many things, but real joy cannot be purchased. I can sell many ebooks, be the best online affiliate marketer, create all kinds of programs….But my latest venture brings in no money at all right now.
I have partnered with an old friend and we have started the Wealth Restoration Institute, an online interactive free financial community dedicated to helping people help other poeple who have lost significant net worth or income in this latest economic tsunami. We know the way back from financial ruin because we’ve been here before and made it back before.
My joy is in seeing very “down” people realize that they can come back from financial disaster simply by understanding that if they help others, they are setting themselves up for success. And right now there is no charge for any of that information.
You see, I used to define my success by having a net worth in the millions. Today I define it as being of service to others. of making a positive difference in one other person’s life. My “wealth” today is in having people tell me how I have changed their lives for the better. I may have lost money in this economic shipwreck,. but I have regained my “real wealth” 10 fold.
